This Diwali has been the same for Kollywood with two heavyweights fighting it out for the supremacy. Surya’s 7am Arivu versus Vijay’s Velayutham. 7am Arivu made at a budget of around 80 crores has been screened around at 1000plus theatres worldwide, has managed to collect around 37 crores the first week(41 crores so far). With critics citing the movie’s excessive advertising as the main reason for the movie’s underperformance.
On the other hand, Vijay’s commercial comeback.made at around 45crores and screened around in 650 theatres has managed to get 31 crores in the first week of Diwali(around 52 crores so far) .With words spreading about the movie, the movie is sure to surpass 7am arivu in the box office in the days to come as theatres are planning to reduce 7am Arivu’s screening numbers.
Ra one made at an whooping 150 crores has released worldwide in a grand manner. Though the critics has degraded the movie, it has managed to collect over 190 crores world wide and also the telecast rights for about 40 crores and the merchandise collection has made sure that Shahrukh stays the “Badshah of Bollywood”.
